Emmys 2017 Takeaway

The Black Mirror episode San Junipero won two Emmys last night, an honor which it couldn’t have earned more. It’s a shining example of good story telling. It set’s up a world that’s unique and pulls the viewer into the feelings of the characters. It tells a story that moves the viewer (It makes  you cry like a baby). If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out on Netflix.

Some shows I hadn’t seen but caught my eye: Atlanta, Veep, Fargo, and Big Little Lies. I hadn’t seen any of these shows and decided to give Big Little Lies a chance and watched a couple episodes after the awards were over. It’s one of those weird shows that leaves me with no idea of what’s going on, why I should care, or why I feel the need to watch another episode. Hopefully this one leads to something interesting, unlike the last show I watched like this, The OA. I don’t have time for TV shows that are vague and void of meaning, no matter how interesting they might seem.

Post for February 7, 2010

Right off the bat I need to command everyone to go play Tetris.

I don’t use cable TV. I get all my television and movie needs from Netflix and Hulu. Netflix has seen an increase in users since making their service available on consoles. Netflix doing well is good news for us because that means they will be around longer and might offer better pricing deals in the future. On the other hand a rumor is going around that Hulu will begin charging for their service. That’s bad news for us since we like free things.

Crysis 2 will be set in New York City. I still have not finished the first game but I have had fun with the multiplayer. Crysis 2 is making claims that it will be the best looking console game this generation. With the looks and performance of Crysis 1 I fully believe them.

Prince of Persia has a new game coming out. It continues the new PoP while it seems it will borrow some story from the original PoP. The title is Forgotten Sands, which is awful similar to Sands of Time. Go play the original trilogy and ignore the new ones. The new one is just too easy and boring (even though I love the dialog and voice actors).

Forever fall superbowl

Looking for a free good time? No, I’m not going to give you my phone number.  Visit captainforever.com to play Captain Forever. It’s fun browser-based game where you build a space ship from modules floating around you. Once you build a small at the beginning you venture out to attack other ships. Defeating these ships allows you to take their parts and add them to your own ship. It’s an addictive time waster that I recommend.

The PlayStation 3’s motion controller is being delayed until this fall. Looks like were stuck sitting on the couch to play our games for another 7 months. Bummer. I was looking forward to waving my arms around wildly and dancing about my living room.

51% percent of the people watching the Super Bowl admit to liking the ads better than the game. I don’t even bother to watch the game. I go online the day after and find all the commercials. That’s how I found Hulu back in 2008.

Hey Sony! I can has Netflix?!

Folks, soon you will have Netflix streaming on your Playstation 3. Great news huh? I thought so. What else can I say about it? I could say that it’s awesome, but that would make me sound like a dork.

Well now that the Public Service Announcement is out of the way let’s just look at streaming video as a whole. I am part of a small, but rising number of people who don’t have cable. I have Netflix and Hulu. I can watch every show that I desire. I keep up on Fringe, Lost, House, The Office, and the new Stargate. I am able to go back and watch older shows such as the Original Stargate or Monty Python’s Flying Circus. I can watch whatever I want, when I want, and have shorter commercial breaks, or no commercials at all. Top that off with my movies being mailed to me on a regular basis and I have a great (cheap) system going.

Keep streaming video people!
